Sheriff’s Message
With nearly 24 years of service with the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office, my career has been one of progression through the ranks from patrol deputy, to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and for the past 13 years, Undersheriff. This experience has brought me a wealth of knowledge of both the people and the issues of Uinta County.

Management Experience
Hands-on management experience of the Dispatch and Detention Centers, as well as Patrol Deputies, has brought me extensive knowledge of the intricate workings of this office, and has thoroughly prepared me for the culmination of my law enforcement career, serving as Uinta County Sheriff.

Undersheriff Experience
As Undersheriff, I have worked closely with former Sheriff Bright in the development and management of the Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center budgets. I am committed to providing the best possible service, while maintaining strict accountability in the expenditure of public funds.

Through my years as an administrator I have developed good relationships with the other County elected officials. My responsibilities as Undersheriff have given me extensive knowledge of the working of County Government.

Administrative Skills
Having served in an administrative capacity for many years, I am very familiar with issues that are of statewide importance to law enforcement.

I’ve worked with other Sheriffs and Chiefs on matters of drug intervention and education, mutual aid, P.O.S.T standards and Homeland Security.

Ranching Training
Ranching issues are an integral part of our responsibilities. Range Deputies Spike Arnell and Steve Cheney were mentored by Jim Watson and Louie Bindl and obtained extensive training before assuming their duties in the ranching community. I have expanded the Range Deputy positions by providing training in livestock and ranching issues to all deputies.

Career Development Program
I have been instrumental in the design and implementation of a Career Development program that has been the model for agencies across the state. This facilitates the personal and professional growth of each member of the Sheriff’s Office. Meth is the major drug scourge of our time. Drug abuse must be addressed on multiple fronts: education, enforcement, and treatment. I have successfully obtained federal grants to enhance our K-9 program, fund the Drug Court Program and provide overtime funding for drug interdiction. We are also educating employers, schools and businesses on issues of drug abuse.

Mounted Unit
I was instrumental in the development and training of the Uinta County Mounted Unit. The Unit has been a positive and proactive addition to the UInta County Fair, and the Evanston and Bridger Valley Rendezvous.

Detention Center
I understand the exposure that Uinta County sustains because of the operation of the Detention Center. That there has been no litigation brought by an inmate for several years is exceptional. This is due to the extreme diligence exercised by the Detention staff and the policies and training we have developed.
